Vonage Desktop App MSI installation

Updated: 4/19/2024 12:30 AM

Vonage provides MSI packages that can be used by IT administrators to deploy the Vonage Business Desktop App to multiple Windows machines. This is useful for situations where administrators need to install the application in bulk or environments where individual users do not have the rights to install the app themselves. In the event you experience issues with a recent update of the Vonage Desktop App, you can revert back to one of the previous versions found here.

Vonage provides two MSI install options:

  • Per-user Installation: installs the app for a single user profile in Windows
  • Machine-wide Installation: installs the app for all user profiles in Windows
In case you do not need to deploy the application at a large scale, download the executable version of the Vonage Business Desktop App for Windows.
MSI for Per-User Installation

Per-user Installations:

  • Installs the app for a single user on a PC (a different user logging on to the same PC would not have the desktop app installed).
  • The app upgrades automatically with this option.
  • Uses less system space than the machine-wide installation.
  • Ideal for:

    • Organizations where each user has their own PC
    • Organizations where administrators want the application to update automatically

NOTE:  When updating, previous versions of the app do not need to be uninstalled in order to upgrade.

  1. Download and install the MSI Installer for per-user Installation.
  2. Run the installer, which guides you through the installation process.
Once complete, the Vonage Business Desktop App appears in the Start Menu.
MSI for Machine-Wide Installation

Machine-Wide Installations:

  • Installs the MSI installer file to Windows so all users receive the app
  • Each user has their own, unique profile.
  • Each time a new user logs into the PC for the first time, they automatically have the desktop app already installed.
  • The app does not upgrade automatically with this option.  The administrator would need to manually upgrade to future versions of the app.
  • Ideal for:

    • Organizations where multiple users share the same PC
    • Organizations where administrators want to manage upgrade maintenance
  1. Download the MSI Installer for machine-wide installation.
  2. To install the MSI package, launch the Command Prompt (CMD) as an administrator and run one of the following commands (PC reboot not required):

    Silent Installmsiexec /i <path_to_package> /qn /norestart
Silent Install and Write Installation Log to Filemsiexec /i <path_to_package> /l*v <path_to_log_file> /qn

The Vonage Business Desktop App appears on the Desktop or in the Start Menu.

NOTE:  New users logging in to Windows for the first time may need to search for Vonage Business in the start menu to locate the app.

Uninstall MSI Installer

The MSI uninstaller removes the desktop app for everyone except for the system admin. The admin needs to uninstall the app manually.

  1. Launch the Command Prompt (CMD) as an administrator.
  2. Run the command: msiexec /x <path_to_package> /qn

Release Cadence

Native App Version

  • We release this type once a month (maximum) and it prompts the user to update (unless it's an MSI per machine).
  • These updates usually include audio and computer system enhancements.

Web Version

  • We usually release updates every two weeks, and they occur after reloading the page / closing and reopening the app.
  • These updates include most of the UI/UX features. (Features that require access to audio and computer systems will also require a native version release.)
