Bridge Mode

In some cases, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will provide you with a Modem/Router Combination (MRC). This is a modem and router built into a single device. Although this combination device may work fine for your computer’s Internet traffic, you may run into issues if you are using it with your Vonage Business phones.

If you have an MRC, one important way to improve your service is to purchase a stand-alone router. Doing this can resolve issues such as not being able to receive calls, not being able to transfer calls, or even not being able to get multiple phones up and running at one time.

After purchasing a new router, contact your ISP and ask them to put your MRC device into “bridge mode.” Bridge mode converts your device into a modem only. More specifically, your ISP will be turning off the NAT system, firewall, and DHCP functions that your new, stand-alone router will handle.

Once your MRC is in bridge mode, plug your new router into the modem and follow the instructions for set up.
